The Masterson team of doctors believe traditional and chiropractic approaches to health care should complement -- not contradict -- each other. Our care is unique. We don't just treat pain; we work to correct its causes. We treat patients like family, and it shows in their smiles. We take a strong interest in educating all of our patients to become partners in the healing process. Our doctors and therapist are always available and willing to answer any questions you may have about your health.
Gloritza (Glory) is our receptionist. She is the resident expert on all matters involving the clinic and your care. She will schedule appointments, greet you when you arrive, check you out when you're ready to leave, and take care of all your needs and questions. You can reach Glory on weekdays during normal business hours.
Allow 60 to 90 minutes for your first visit to Masterson Chiropractic Clinic. This allows you and the doctor time to discuss your health concerns in a quiet, non-hurried, relaxed environment. Dr. Masterson will evaluate your health history, talk to you about your concerns, perform a physical examination, and take any necessary X-rays.
Do not expect to be adjusted on your first visit. Instead, a doctor will tell you what you can do to minimize your pain over the next 24-48 hours, so the doctor has time to develop your x-rays and thorougly examine them. The x-rays will be used along with your health and case histories to help Dr. Masterson make an accurate diagnosis and determine a course of treatment for you.
On your second visit, Dr. Masterson will spend about an hour with you to explain your diagnosis and go over your x-rays with you, explain how chiropractic care may be used to treat your injury, show you a short video that explains how chiropractic care works, answer any questions you may have, address all of your concerns, and finally, recommend a course of treatment for you. Based on the analysis of your initial examination, your treatment could consist of chiropractic adjustments, therapies and rehabilitation. Your will receive a written report to take home that summarizes your specific care and the recommendations for our care. After your consultation, Dr. Masterson will give you your first chiropractic adjustment.
During the adjustment process, Dr. Masterson will do pre and post checks to determine which vertebrae are out of position and make sure all problems are corrected. In many cases, Dr. Mastson will make the adjustments to your spine using the activator method technique. The tool used in this process is called an activator. The activator allows Dr. Masterson to use the lowest possible force to manipulate your spine, and it gives the doctor the greatest amount of control over the adjustment. The technique is a pain-free and relatively quiet procedure.
In many cases, Dr. Masterson will also use traditional manual techniques and an extremely gentle Thompson drop table to correct misaligned vertebrae and, especially, the larger bones of your pelvis. This special table has sections which drop 1/4 inch, during a manual chiropractic adjustment, allowing gravity to assit in the adjustment, so that a very little pressure is used. This, too, is a pain-free and relatively quiet procedure.
Where discs are bulging, ruptured or herniated, the doctors will employ a Cox Flexion Distraction table, gently stretching the back and assisting the disc in returning to its normal position. All of these techniques are very comfortable.
After your adjustment, you may receive an ice therapy or an inferential current treatment. Inferential current is administered with a Super Stim Machine. It feels wonderful and is used to decrease pain and muscle spasms. The inferential current and ice work together to help reduce any inflammation in the involved area of your spine, reduce pain symptoms, and improve and maintain mobility of the vertebrae.
Spinal Rehabilitation
Active spinal rehabilitation involves special exercises to lengthen and strengthen spinal ligaments and re-organize muscle contraction patterns. Early rehabilitation of spinal injuries causes the best possible healing of soft tissues (ligaments, muscles and intervertebral discs), so that you don't end up with disabilities and chronic re-occuring flare-ups. We do all of our rehabilitation in our spa-like clinic so you'll never have to see a physical therapist.
How to Stay Young Workshops
Clinical research shows that patients who understand back-friendly methods for accomplishing daily activities and what they can do to speed up their healing and prevent re-injury get well much, must faster.
Our revolutionary Get Well Stay Well class is a fast-paced one hour workship that we offer at no charege to all our new patients and their families.
Rehabilitation
Once back pain has occurred, the body "shuts down" some function of key stabilizing muscles, resulting in a weakened, destabilized condition where lifting just 20 pounds may cause bones to misalign and pinch nerves. As a result, 50% of patients who do not complete a spinal rehabilitation exercise program will have relapsed within just 12-18 months.
Our state-of-the-art rehabilitation program works to restore normal function and promote optimal healing.
